This is a list of sovereign states and dependent territories in Africa. It includes both fully recognized states, states with limited recognition, and dependent territories of both African and non-African states. It lists 54 sovereign states and 10 non-sovereign territories.
Malta and parts of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain are located on the African continental plate, some considerably closer to the African than European mainland, but politically are generally considered European by convention. Similarly, the island of Socotra is also on the African plate and much closer to Africa, but is politically part of the Asian state of Yemen. Egypt, although extending into Asia through the Sinai Peninsula, is considered an African state.
The following 54 fully recognised states are all members of the United Nations, and as of 2015, all except Morocco and the Central African Republic are members of the African Union.
Country Home may refer to:
An English country house is a large house or mansion in the English countryside. Such houses were often owned by individuals who also owned a town house. This allowed them to spend time in the country and in the city—hence, for these people, the term distinguished between town and country. However, the term also encompasses houses that were, and often still are, the full-time residence for the landed gentry. These people were central to the landed gentry that ruled rural Britain until the Reform Act 1832. Frequently, the formal business of the counties was transacted in these country houses.
With large numbers of indoor and outdoor staff, country houses were important as places of employment for many rural communities. In turn, until the agricultural depressions of the 1870s, the estates, of which country houses were the hub, provided their owners with incomes. However, the late 19th and early 20th centuries were the swan song of the traditional English country house lifestyle. Increased taxation and the effects of World War I led to the demolition of hundreds of houses; those that remained had to adapt to survive.
Country Home was a country lifestyle magazine, published by Meredith Corporation. The magazine featured decorating and collecting, food and entertaining, fashion and well-being, travel and shopping.Country Home provided ideas and inspiration for readers who live a country lifestyle, or aspire to create one, in city lofts, farmhouses, suburban colonials, getaway cottages or wherever else. Country Home, which was launched in 1984, was published 10 times a year and each issue had over 8.3 million readers.
On January 8, 2009, Meredith Corporation announced that the magazine would cease publication effective with the March 2009 issue. The company cited a poor advertising climate and noted that the closing was part of larger set of cost-cutting actions at the company.
I don't like to go down to flats
'Cause I can't park on a hill
Instead getting a rolling start
I have to pay the bill.
I guess I need that city life
It sure has lots of style
But pretty soon it wears me out
And I have to think to smile.
I'm thankful for my country home
It gives me peace of mind
Somewhere I can walk alone
And leave myself behind.
It's only someone else's potatoes
You pickin' someone else's patch
And if you go down there anyway
It very seldom lasts.
I found that out once long ago
And it sure got me confused
I still don't know which way to go
To lose those old spud blues.
I'm thankful for my country home
It gives me peace of mind
Somewhere I can walk alone
